Ranthambhore
National Park is counted amongst the most popular national parks in

as a sanctuary in 1959 and included in the very first phase of Project Tiger
Scheme in 1972. Ranthambhore attained a National Park status in 1981.
Interestingly, the park obtained its name from the Ranthambhore fort perched
on a rocky outcrop in the forest.
Location :
Ranthambhore exist as one of the India's finest wildlife locations and is
situated near Sawai Madhour township, about 100 kms south east of Ajmer in
Rajasthan. The nearest railhead at the national park is about11 km from
Ranthambhore. The nearest airport is that of Jaipur, which is about 145 km
away. There are regular flights of various airlines to this place. From
Jaipur one has to take the road to access the national park.
Ranthambhore as a Tiger Reserve :
Ranthambhore is another popular wildlife sanctuary known for Tigers.
Ranthambhore is counted amongst the very few places in the world where this
super-predator, symbol of dynamism and strength can be observed at close
quarters. Tigers can be spotted quite often in their natural habitat even
during daytime. They have been frequently seen at the edges of three lakes.
Population Of Tiger :
According to figures, there are about 25 tigers and 40 leopards in the
reserve. These are supported by a large population of healthy herbivores. It
is quite easy to sight a tiger on your safari to the Jungle. Ranthambhore
has sizeable number of panthers and can be spotted at the outskirts of the
park. Kachida Valley is regarded as the ideal place, for locating panthers
at the tiger reserve.
Chirpy Birds :
It is a paradise for birds. You can easily locate birds like Jacanas,
painted stork, black stork, and white necked stork. It good number of
Peafowl and other birds that includes Bonelli's eagle, crested serpent
eagle, the great Indian horned owl, quail, partridge, spur fowl and the
paradise flycatcher
Best Seasons :
The best seasons to explore the enthralling national park is between
December and April, soce the climate during that time is pleasurable to go
out on excursions. March and April, especially, are months when
tiger-spotting is more. Since the summer heat attracts animals to the
waterholes, so theres greater chance of seeing wildlife in May or
June.
