
Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary - One of the largest wildlife sanctuary in
Karnataka. Dandeli is generally abounds with steep slopes with scenic deep
river valleys and rich hilly forest terrain. Situated in the Uttar Kannada
district in the State of Karnataka, Dandeli is rich in both flora and fauna.
Spanning over 834.16 sq.km, the Dandeli wildlife sanctuary is the second
largest in Karnataka and is linked with the Mahaveer sanctuary in Goa. The
sanctuary is surrounded by forest with its spurs of the western ghats, the
breath taking valleys, regal looking meandering rivers and is a picturesque
beauty of the rock make it awe inspiring natural beauty.
Location of Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary :
Dandeli wildlife sanctuary is located on the banks of River Kali, amidst
the thickly forested and hilly areas of Uttara Kannada District, and the
camp is close to Goa at a distance of 125 km from Goa. Karwar is at a
distance of 117 km from and Belgaum at 95 km. Bangalore is around 400
kilometres from this nature reserve.

Sanctuary houses many animals that include Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, Gaur,
Sloth Bear, Civet cat, Wild Boar, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Mouse Deer, Barking
Deer, Mongoose, Porcupine, Wild Dog, Giant Squirrel, Flying Squirrel,
Jackal, Common Langur, etc.
Chirpy Birds! :
The major avifuana species in the Dandeli are Magpie Robin , Blue headed
gound thrush, Golden Backed Woodpecker, Indian Cuckoo, Crested Serpent
Eagle, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Grey Hornbill and a large variety of other
Birds.

The best seasons to explore Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is from June to
October. The best time to visit is from December to May.
